Nebula 190-192 Milton Park

Building Project of the Year (Over £20M)

Nebula at Milton Park: Redefining Sustainable Innovation in R&D

Nebula at Milton Park is setting a new benchmark for what research and development spaces can be—pioneering in both sustainable design and architectural ambition. Designed to meet the Federated Hermes Design Innovation Standards, the development blends high-tech flexibility with environmentally conscious construction, establishing a UK-first in the evolution of R&D facilities.

At the heart of the project lies a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and sustainability. Instead of traditional steel and concrete, Nebula features a glulam timber portal frame with cross-laminated timber (CLT) mezzanine floors—saving a remarkable 686 tonnes of CO₂ during construction. This bold move not only reduced embodied carbon but also set a new precedent in R&D workspace design.

A Future-Facing Hub for Growth & Sustainability
Spanning 77,000 sq ft across three buildings, Nebula includes seven self-contained units tailored to meet the needs of modern R&D companies—offering a mix of double-height spaces and CAT A-fitted mezzanine offices. Positioned at the eastern gateway to Milton Park, the project showcases the estate’s forward-looking vision for sustainable, world-class development.

1. Architectural Excellence with Flexibility – Designed to support a diverse range of R&D enterprises, the adaptable layout ensures longevity and growth within the wider Oxford-Cambridge ‘Golden Triangle’.
2. Climate-Positive Construction – The adoption of timber technologies marks a UK-first, with an embodied carbon saving equivalent to 196 return flights to Hong Kong.
3. A Model of Teamwork & Vision – The project is a testament to collaboration, developed with a team-first approach that championed innovation and mutual respect at every stage.

Nebula isn’t just a development—it’s a blueprint for the next generation of sustainable business campuses.
