Preserving the Past, Protecting the Future: Preston Circus Community Fire Station Refurbishment
Morgan Sindall has successfully delivered the comprehensive refurbishment of Brighton’s historic Preston Circus Community Fire Station, blending heritage preservation with modernisation to support the evolving needs of today’s firefighters. Originally constructed in 1938, this much-loved local landmark has been carefully restored to serve the community for generations to come.
The project centred on respecting the building’s rich legacy while upgrading the station to meet 21st-century operational and safety standards. From the outset, Morgan Sindall worked with a preservation-first mindset—retaining key historic features and honouring the architectural identity that makes Preston Circus such a cherished part of Brighton’s civic life.
Designed for Modern Firefighting
The station now features an array of upgraded facilities including a new kitchen, gym, 15 sleeping pods, community hub, and a completely modernised MEP system. A new decontamination space—absent in the original layout—has been integrated to meet critical health and safety standards, allowing firefighters to remove hazardous materials before re-entering shared areas.
A holistic approach to wellbeing was also taken with the new gym, designed to accommodate yoga, stretching, and traditional strength training—catering to all abilities and promoting long-term health for fire crews.
1. Heritage Meets Functionality – A respectful restoration that preserves a historic civic building while delivering a safe, high-performance environment.
2. Critical Health & Safety Upgrade – New decontamination facilities reduce contamination risks for personnel and the station environment.
3. Delivered to Deadline – With just six months permitted for closure, the project was completed on time, ensuring uninterrupted service to the community.
Preston Circus Fire Station now stands as a restored, revitalised hub of emergency response – ready to support Brighton’s firefighters today, tomorrow, and beyond.
