Building for Better Care: Supporting University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust

At Morgan Sindall, our long-standing partnership with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSNFT) reflects a shared commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare environments that support staff, patients, and the wider community. With over 20,000 staff and seven hospitals, UHSNFT is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country—making strategic capital development essential for future-proofing services and enhancing patient care.

Our collaborative relationship with UHSNFT has grown over several key projects. This trust and close communication allow us to navigate complex works on live hospital sites with tight timeframes and minimal disruption to critical services. We focus on solutions that balance innovation with sensitivity to each hospital’s operational needs, ensuring construction complements and enhances care delivery.

We’re proud to have worked across multiple UHSNFT sites, including:

* A £5.3m Community Diagnostic Centre at Southlands Hospital
* £7m A&E and Urgent Treatment Centre expansion at Worthing Hospital
* A new Outpatients Unit at St Richard’s Hospital
* 1.2m refurbishment of Stillman House at St Richard’s
* Renovation of the CTC Fractures Clinic
* A £3.6m live project expanding the SDEC ward and mortuary at St Richard’s Hospital

To date, our major completed projects have all been delivered on time, on budget, and with an impressive 8.6/10 average client satisfaction score. Just as importantly, every scheme was delivered with minimal disruption to hospital operations, thanks to proactive planning and a flexible, communicative approach.

Each project adds to a growing legacy, with lessons learned continually shaping how we deliver smarter, faster, and with greater impact. Together with UHSNFT, we’re building spaces that help staff work more efficiently and patients receive care more quickly—creating long-term health benefits for communities across Sussex.
