Charlie Beckwith: Thriving as a Degree Apprentice and Championing Change

Charlie Beckwith, a Level 6 Degree Apprentice at AtkinsRealis and a student at the University of Portsmouth, is an inspiring young professional who has found his passion in architecture. At just 21 years old, Charlie entered the apprenticeship after completing his A-levels with no prior architecture experience. Fast forward two years, and he has not only thrived within the industry but has also become an advocate for the apprenticeship route, proving that early-career opportunities can lead to significant personal and professional growth.

Learning Through Collaboration
Charlie’s apprenticeship has provided him with the unique opportunity to collaborate on live client projects while also working on university modules. This blend of hands-on experience and academic learning has created a well-rounded and effective learning environment for Charlie, allowing him to develop his skills and understanding of the architecture industry. Despite being one of the most junior members of the team, he constantly challenges himself and strives to make meaningful contributions to the company.

Championing Apprenticeships and Charity
Charlie is a passionate advocate for apprenticeships, often using his platform to raise awareness about this alternative route to higher education. He believes the traditional university route is not always the best fit for everyone, particularly due to its high costs and lack of industry experience. Through his own success, Charlie showcases the benefits of apprenticeships, such as gaining practical experience while studying, which helps build a solid foundation for future career growth.

In addition to his advocacy for apprenticeships, Charlie is also dedicated to charity work. Every year, he supports at least one charity through fundraising efforts, using these opportunities to spread awareness and create platforms of support for important causes.

Mastering Time Management
Balancing both work and study is no small feat, but Charlie has honed his time management skills, allowing him to plan ahead and stay productive. This discipline has enabled him to not only excel in his apprenticeship but also create content such as videos highlighting his travels and supporting global causes.
Charlie’s journey proves that with determination and the right opportunities, even the most junior roles can offer significant value, and the apprenticeship route can be a gateway to a successful and impactful career.
