KGV Football Complex: A Home for Grassroots Sport
The KGV Football Complex marks a bold step forward for grassroots sport in Portsmouth. Led by Portsmouth City Council (PCC) in partnership with the Football Foundation, this £8.1m investment transformed a vandalised site into a vibrant, state-of-the-art facility – bringing new life to an important community asset.
Collaborative Funding, Shared Vision
PCC successfully coordinated funding from multiple sources, including the Football Foundation, HM Government, and the Youth Investment Fund. By aligning the objectives of all stakeholders, the council ensured the project would support both sport and youth provision in one cohesive, future-facing scheme.
An Expert In-House Team
Delivered through PCC’s Capital Projects team, the project brought together architects, engineers, and landscape designers to shape a sustainable, inclusive space. Navigating complex land ownership and stakeholder interests, the Parks and Open Spaces team led a project that reflects both strategic ambition and community need.
Transforming Youth Engagement
More than just pitches and changing rooms, the complex includes a café and spaces designed to host youth activities – helping to guide young people toward positive paths. Since opening in October 2024, the centre has already seen over 70,000 visits and is operating at 81% of its capacity.
With strategic leadership, design excellence, and strong community partnerships, the KGV Football Complex is redefining local sport and youth services in Portsmouth.
