Oasis Restore: Pioneering a New Era in Youth Justice

Oasis Restore Secure School marks a historic first for the UK—a transformative retrofit that redefines how we support young people in custody. Delivered for the Ministry of Justice, this project replaces outdated borstal models with a restorative, education-led environment focused on rehabilitation and long-term success.

Therapeutic Design, Real Social Impact
At the heart of the scheme is a therapeutic approach that integrates tailored education, healthcare, and physical activity. This has already delivered outstanding results—generating over £8.5 million in social value and offering young people new pathways to rebuild their lives. One standout example is Syed, a former resident who joined the project as an apprentice and is now in full-time employment.

Collaboration and Adaptability
Close collaboration with the MoJ and key stakeholders enabled the team to adapt swiftly to evolving needs, from ventilation upgrades to expanded data and power infrastructure. Through continuous engagement, the design stayed aligned with the client’s vision while responding to operational requirements in real time.

Sustainable Retrofit Excellence
Transforming a disused training centre into a secure school meeting BREEAM Very Good standards involved major upgrades—from installing fully electric kitchens and energy-efficient plant equipment to replacing windows and doors for improved performance. These sustainable interventions support both wellbeing and long-term operational resilience.

A Model for Secure School Delivery
Oasis Restore is more than a building—it’s a shift in how the justice system serves vulnerable youth. Through innovation, collaboration, and compassion, the project delivers a space that supports rehabilitation, reduces reoffending, and sets a new precedent nationwide.

A shining example of restorative design and retrofit innovation, this project sets a benchmark for secure school delivery across the UK.
